Common questions

Do I need an active TaxOwl Pro license to buy these?

Yes. Both add-ons require an active TaxOwl Pro license (Starter, TaxOwl Pro, TaxOwl Pro Desktop, or Premier). Co-branding specifically requires TaxOwl Pro or above. If you don’t have a license yet, start at /apply/.

Can I cancel TextLink Boost or Pro between seasons?

Yes. TextLink subscriptions are month-to-month with no long-term commitment. Most preparers run TextLink January through May (peak season + extension follow-up), then either downgrade to the free tier or pause it through summer. Reactivate before the next season.

What happens if I exceed my monthly text cap?

You’ll get a notification at 80% of your cap. If you hit 100%, additional texts queue until the next billing cycle, OR you can upgrade tiers mid-month and the upgraded cap applies retroactively to the current month. We don’t auto-charge overages without consent.

How does Co-branding setup work?

After purchase, you’ll get an onboarding email asking for your office logo (PNG, max height 50px, max width 300px) and a primary brand color hex code. We configure CrossLink’s TaxOwl Pro reseller account to apply your branding to your specific office before season activation. The whole setup takes 1–2 business days. If you have brand guidelines or specific document layouts you want matched, mention that in the onboarding form.

Can my clients tell I’m using TaxOwl Pro / CrossLink?

With Co-branding active, no — your clients see your office name and logo throughout. The engine vendor’s branding is replaced. Required regulatory disclosures (e.g., bank product fee disclosures, IRS-mandated language) still appear, but they appear under your office identity, not ours. Most clients have no awareness that you’re using third-party software at all.

Are these add-ons available for Starter ($449)?

TextLink: yes (50 texts free, $29 Boost or $49 Pro available). Co-branding: no — that requires TaxOwl Pro or above. The reasoning: Starter is built as a low-volume entry tier (up to 25 returns), and at that volume the per-client value of co-branding doesn’t justify the setup work. When a Starter customer scales to 25+ returns, upgrading to TaxOwl Pro unlocks co-branding as a $99 add-on.
